Pandemic Brings Toronto’s Legacy Of Environmental Racism Into The Open​​

The NOW Toronto article examines how the COVID-19 pandemic exposed long-standing environmental inequities in Toronto, rooted in systemic racism.

Drawing on insights including those from urban planner Amina Yasin, the piece argues that the pandemic didn’t create new issues so much as reveal persistent patterns where racialized neighbourhoods especially Black and Indigenous communities face greater exposure to pollution, underinvestment in infrastructure, food insecurity and health risks.
