In the summer of 2020, the Ontario Professional Planners Institute’s Council approved the creation of an Anti-Black Racism in Planning Task Force (ABRP TF) with the desire to create an overarching strategy to remove systemic barriers to the inclusion of Black community members in the planning profession and to increase representation of Black community members in the planning profession.
The article highlights how Toronto’s long-promised Regent Park Social Development Plan (SDP) originally approved in 2007 to guide social infrastructure, community economic development and resident-led governance alongside the physical redevelopment of Regent Park went for almost 13–17 years without meaningful funding or implementation.
