We are a network of 40+ Black professionals working in planning, design, and real estate development. A few of us began to connect through involvement in the Black Planning Project and this quickly developed into periodic times of professional discussions over dinners in Fall 2018. In January 2019, we collaborated with A Different Booklist for an event called ‘Dinner with a Black Real Estate Developer’ to learn about the experiences of Black professionals working in this space and we explored how we could work together to support those entering the field and advancing the development of Black spaces and communities.
In April and May 2019, we came together to identify our organizational vision, goals and directive.
aims to facilitate engagement and collaboration among professionals to increase access and opportunities for the Black community in planning, land development, housing, and environmental related fields.
By working with the community our goal is to bring about change in the built environment to improve the lives of Black people and diverse communities.
Increase engagement and collaboration among Black professionals working in planning, design, and real estate development; and improved planning outcomes in Black spaces and communities that enhance the well-being of Black families and individuals.
To build connections between Black professionals in these fields and to use our expertise to work in collaboration to improve outcomes in Black communities.
To inspire Black youth to enter the field and to mentor young and early career professionals entering the field.
To share our knowledge and expertise with each other and to seek out opportunities for learning to strengthen our practice.
To advocate for transformational change to enable Black residents to thrive in Black communities and spaces through research, policy and action.
